History of the Subaru Outback XT
Just imagine, it’s 2005, the sun is beaming as you drive around town with the windows down blaring Weezer’s “Beverly Hills” on the radio and you pass the Subaru dealership. Parked right out front is a brand new Outback XT with a nice hood scoop that you’ve seen on previous models. That’s right, in 2005 Subaru unveiled the new Outback XT model complete with with a 2.5L turbo engine bringing a whole new state of affairs to the wagon market! From there, the Legacy GT’s wagon alter-ego solidified it’s place in the performance Subaru model lineage. That model ran until 2009 with a few slight facelifts but maintained their engine and transmission options throughout until 2010 when a new generation came without the turbo engine option saddening a large majority of enthusiasts.
After a 10-year hiatus, Subaru rejuvenated the Outback XT model with the addition of the turbo motor as standard, this time utilizing the new FA24 Direct-Injected Turbo engine originally found within the larger Ascent family hauler, mated exclusively to a high-torque CVT transmission.
